Scope

Replacement of all exterior HID lighting for all common area, campus buildings, and student centers, utilizing Lumecon’s energy efficient 33 watt forward throw LED Wallpack; LWP3 mini LED Wallpack and other LED area lighting solutions.

Description

Harper College opened in September 1967. It is named for Dr. William Rainey Harper - a pioneer in the junior college movement in the United States and the first president of the University of Chicago. Harper College last saw substantial lighting improvements nearly 25 years ago. For Harper College it was first time to re-lamp the exterior complex to many of the most prestigious, technology advanced buildings, on campus. Lumecon’s Michigan made LED Wallpack product line was introduced to the Engineering Department at Harper College. Harper's engineers knew they had a winner in Lumecon's Wallpack product line. Lumecon's LED lighting replaced degrading metal halide and high pressure sodium fixtures throughout the entire campus, over two hundred fixtures in all. Typical installations consisted of 150-175w (+ballast) in metal halide and HPS. In each existing installation, Lumecon implemented its energy efficient Wallpack line, offering a 33w energy solution to meet their sustainability initiatives for 2011 and beyond! Existing lighting offered little in efficacy, color rendering, uniformity, and overall, useful exterior lighting. The new Lumecon, made in Michigan, crisp, 6200K Lumecon LED Wallpack line offered a stark contrast to each utilized area. Emergency fire catwalks and stairwells are brighter; student buildings and learning stations have better and safer lighting; utility drives and other high vehicular access ways have more lumens causing brighter, more reliable lighting. Harper College's new exterior lighting will result in a 55% energy efficiency for all areas that use the Lumecon product line. This LED line boasts ZERO MAINTENANCE for 7 Years (Lumecon’s 7 Year All-Parts warranty is unmatched in the industry!) for each of its LED solutions, including the LWP2 (33w); the LWP3 (8w); the LWP6 (33w); and the PS2 Area Light (84w). Each LWP3 unit includes the necessary photo cell sensor for adequate, energy efficiency and lighting controls throughout all of the campus while the other units were upgraded with photo cells for maximum efficiency. Most of the Wallpacks are installed between ten feet to fifteen feet; with some mountings as high as twenty plus feet for additional safety and protection at select building entries.

Harper College also took advantage of the Illinois DCEO (Dept of Commerce and Economic Opportunity) Program; and was able to offset a significant portion of the capitol start up cost of our fixtures, with this incentive based program; netting an estimated ROI of under 3 years for the project.
